SCOPE OF THE ROLE:
Internews Network is implementing a USAID-funded Media Activity program in Liberia aimed to enhance the human and institutional capacity of the media sector while advocating for and maintaining current media freedoms to reliably carry out responsible journalism, drive reforms, and increase revenue. In the course of the implementation of the program, Internews is currently looking for a qualified and motivated full-time Regional Technical Media Advisor to be based in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. Qualified females are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Regional Technical Media Advisor will provide embedded support, lead and advice Internews’ work with radio media outlets especially community radio stations (CRSs) on training, mentoring and the management of media resource centers ensuring financial viability, sustainability, and development of the Liberia radio sector. The Regional Technical Media Advisor will report to the Senior Journalism Trainer.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides training to community radio station managers, journalists, and talk show
hosts.
Supervises mentorship program at Community Radio Stations in assigned
Manages the Media Resource Center at duty station, providing mentoring and technical support to journalists and other users.
Advises on the design and implementation of Media Activity small grants scheme to media
outlets, and equipment grants.
Provides support and ideas on sharing of content between community radio
Support media business training activities
Participate in media assessment and other media research activities during project
Implementation
Serves as field-based representative of Internews and USAID Media Activity
Support community radio licensing process with LTA and MICAT
Provides advice and support to the organization of community media forums.
Contribute to USAID Media Activity M&E Activities through the project
implementation
Report on program activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelors’ degree in journalism, mass communications or related field.
Post graduate qualification will be an advantage.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five years in radio journalism including production, broadcast, programming, training, and mentoring; experience in radio management a plus
Alternately ten or more years of extensive and proven record in radio journalism
including programming, production, broadcasting, training, and development.
Experience in media training required.
Experience in providing support to women in radio journalism.
SKILLS:
Knowledge and experience with radio equipment.
Good computer skills including radio editing software.
Strong commitment to teamwork.
Effective communication, motivating leadership and interpersonal skills.
